Plain-language answers

Understand your typing score.

What does WPM mean?

WPM means words per minute. This test uses five typed characters, including spaces and punctuation, as one word. Gross WPM is (characters typed ÷ 5) ÷ elapsed minutes.

How are net speed and accuracy calculated?

Net WPM subtracts the current incorrect-character count from the five-character word count before dividing by elapsed minutes. Negative net scores are displayed as zero. Accuracy is correct characters ÷ typed characters × 100. Correcting a character removes that error; this is not a count of every wrong key ever pressed.

When does the test start and finish?

The timer starts on your first typed character. It ends after 60 seconds or when you finish the displayed passage. A shorter passage can end early, so the speed uses the actual time elapsed. An empty test shows 100% accuracy as an initial placeholder, not a result.

Is my typing stored or sent to a server?

No. This version calculates your score in the browser and does not save attempts or send typing to a scoreboard. Reset starts a fresh passage. A physical keyboard gives more consistent results than a mobile keyboard with suggestions.
